General Requirements

Students admitted to the BMCB Program must have an undergraduate degree in biological or physical sciences and must have completed course work in mathematics through calculus, chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Coursework in physical chemistry is also encouraged. Students can be admitted with course deficiencies under some circumstances.

When sending application materials by DHL, Federal Express, United Parcel Service, or any other courier service, please do not send to a P.O. box. Please use the street address listed at the bottom of this page. Using a P.O. box will cause a delay in delivery.

Application Procedures

Please send all application materials to the BMCB program coordinator at the address below. There is a $50 application fee that is required by the Graduate College.

STEP 1: Complete the BMCB application online.

STEP 2: Arrange for additional material to be sent directly to the address shown below. To expedite this process, you may send unofficial copies of your transcripts and standard test scores. Official copies will be required to finalize your admission. Additional material to be sent directly to the department includes:

  • Three letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with your work (one of these letters should be from your research advisor, if applicable). Remember to give your letter writers plenty of notice. Click here to download the forms for letters of recommendation.
  • Official transcripts of all college and university work.
  • Official GRE results (general exam is required and a subject exam is optional).
  • Official TOEFL results (for international students only).
  • Graduate College application which can be completed online by domestic and international applicants provided you are paying with a credit card. Click here to access the Graduate College online application. Alternatively, the Graduate College application form and Domicile Affidavit (for students claiming Arizona residency) or Financial Guarantee (international applications) should be completed and returned along with the $50 application fee and other application materials. Click here to download the Graduate College forms. When completing the Graduate College application, you will be asked to indicate the major to which you are seeking admission. This major should be the same as the track that you have chosen -- that is, either Biochemistry (BIOC), Molecular & Cellular Biology (MCB), or Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology (BMCB).

The completed application consists of:

  • Application which includes the personal statement (to be completed online)
  • Three letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with your work.
  • Official school transcripts.
  • Official GRE results.
  • Official TOEFL results (for international students only).
  • Graduate College application and $50 application fee (either completed online and paid by credit card or downloaded, printed, and completed).
