Students can choose from three different degree tracks, including Biochemistry, Molecular & Cellular Biology, or Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology. The track the student chooses determines the core courses the student must take. Note: Students who choose either the Biochemistry or the Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology track must have taken a course in physical chemistry. Students who have not taken physical chemistry and wish to pursue either of these tracks may take physical chemistry after arriving at the University of Arizona.

Biochemistry Track: Nucleic Acids, Proteins and Enzymes, and any one of the following: Biological Structure, Computational Biophysics, or Functional and Evolutionary Genomics

Molecular & Cellular Biology Track: Cell Systems, Nucleic Acids, and Advanced Genetics

Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology Track: Proteins and Enzymes, Nucleic Acids, Advanced Genetics, and one of the following: Functional and Evolutionary Genomics, Cell Systems, Computational Biophysics, or Biological Structure

Additionally, students complete two 7-week laboratory rotations per semester (4 rotations total)

      Second Year:

      • Initial committee meeting to formulate plan of elective study
      • Two or three elective classes per semester to fulfill study plan
