33 of the 34 BMCB students that graduated over the last 5 years took a position in industry, a science teaching job, or a postdoctoral position, immediately following graduation.

  • 14 students moved to a new university for their postdoctoral studies
  • 6 students stayed at UArizona for their postdoctoral studies
  • 8 students pursued research positions in industry
  • 2 took faculty positions at other universities 
  • 1 student runs the BIOTECH program at a Tucson High School
  • 1 student became a Science Advisor at a Law Firm
  • 1 student became a science writer

Student Success Rates

Among the 34 students that graduated from the BMCB program in the last 5 years, the average time to degree was 5.5 years--a number that is nearly identical across race and gender. 

  • 71% of our students graduated in less than 6 years  (last 5 years)

  • 65% of our students go on to postdoctoral training (last 10 years)

  • The 34 BMCB students that graduated in the last 5 years published, on average, 1.7 first author papers and 3.2 total papers. Moreover, 60% of the students published a first author paper in a top-tier journal including; PNAS (3), eLife (2), Cell Reports (2), Molecular Cell (2), Molecular Biology of the Cell (2), Genes and Development (1), Current Biology (1), The Journal of Cell Biology (1), The Journal of Virology (5), The Biophysical Journal (6) Genetics (4), Biochemistry (2), and PLOS Genetics (1).
