Centrosomes are organelles that build microtubule-based protein machines, such as the mitotic spindle and cilia. At the core of the centrosome lies a pair of centrioles, that serve as the duplicating elements of the organelle.  Any errors in the assembly and structure of the centrosomes can result in centrosome loss or centrosome amplification (increase in the number of centrosomes in the cell) and thus in chromosomal instability, a hallmark of cancer.
My primary focus is on understanding the duplication of the centrosome and specifically the assembly and elongation of centrioles.
